Identification of the Amlash Humped Bull Rhyton (Takuk)

The Amlash humped bull rhyton (Takuk) from Marlik, dating back to the 1st and 2nd millennium BC, symbolizes power and fertility in ancient Iranian culture.

These artifacts, made from stone or clay, were used in religious ceremonies. Their intricate details reflect the skill of the artists of that time and help us better understand the history and lives of the people of that era. These rhytons, as artistic and cultural treasures, possess a unique appeal and represent the richness of Iran’s history.

Description of the Sagar and Torch Firing

Techniqu:

Sagar is an execution technique applied after the initial body firing to increase strength. It involves coating the piece with various coloring metal oxides and then enclosing it in a sealed chamber. This is then fired a second time. Due to the high temperatures and chemical reactions resulting from the vapors and fumes within the kiln, the colors combine in a complex and unpredictable manner. This ultimately creates diverse, random, unique, and unrepeatable designs and colors.

In the torch firing technique, certain metallic colorants and oxides are applied in liquid form onto the ceramic body. The piece is then.

This process results in one-of-a-kind pieces, as no two will ever be exactly alike. Therefore, please consider this when placing an order, or choose from existing pieces where the product’s outcome is already known.

Finally, the pieces are washed, polished, and buffed.

This entire execution process takes approximately 10 days.
