Wind instruments are a family of musical instruments that produce sound by vibrating air within a tube or resonating chamber. The vibration is created by blowing air into or across the instrument, and the pitch is controlled by altering the length of the air column or the way the air vibrates. Wind instruments are typically divided into two main categories:
- Woodwinds: Use a reed or air split on an edge to create sound. Examples: Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, Saxophone.
- Brass: Sound is produced by buzzing the lips into a mouthpiece. Examples: Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Tuba, Euphonium.
