🎶 Ney-Anban: A Traditional Wind Instrument of Southern Iran

The Ney-Anban is a traditional bagpipe native to southern Iran, especially popular in regions like Khuzestan, Bushehr, and Hormozgan. It consists of three main parts:

– Airbag (Anban): Made from treated goat or sheep skin, it stores air and is inflated by mouth. The player squeezes it under the arm to produce continuous sound.
– Reed Pipes: Two melody pipes with vibrating reeds are fixed into a wooden stock. Each pipe has finger holes for tuning and melody.
– Blowpipe: A one-way valve used to fill the airbag without letting air escape.

The instrument is handcrafted using natural materials, and its sound is energetic, warm, and rhythmic—often used in celebrations, weddings, and folk ceremonies. The Ney-Anban is a symbol of southern Iranian musical heritage.
